Biography of Captain Oliver Hazard Perry Taylor
Captain Oliver Hazard Perry Taylor, born September 14, 1825, in Newport, Rhode Island, was the youngest son of Commodore William Vigneron Taylor. He graduated from West Point in 1846 and served in New Mexico, engaging in battles against Indians and during the Mexican-American War. Promoted to Captain for his bravery, he led troops in various conflicts until his death at the Battle of Tohotonimme on May 17, 1858. He married Kate Deweese in 1853 and had two children. His actions earned him recognition for personal bravery.
