William H. Fordney, a former resident of the north end of Wallowa County, passed away at his home near Turlock, Calif., Thursday, Jan. 22, 1931. William Henry Fordney was born in Scotland County, Missouri, Feb. 18, 1863, and was at the time of his death aged 67 years, 11 months and 4 days. He came to the Lost Prairie country in 1887, with his brother, Peter Fordney, now deceased. The Fordneys lived in Wallowa County for many years. In the fall of 1907, William H. The first death in this vicinity caused by Spanish Influenza was the four year old son of William Halsey who lives on upper Prairie Creek. The death occurred Saturday and comes as a hard blow to the parents and friends of the little boy. The funeral was held Sunday. Scott Hallgarth, one of the North End pioneers, after a short sickness departed this life, Thursday afternoon, September 27, at his home in Lost Prairie. Mr. and Mrs. Richards, son-in-law and daughter of the deceased, came in from the Grande Ronde valley to attend the funeral which took place Friday afternoon. Services were conducted in the M.E. church by Rev. Lines, after which the remains were interred in the M.E. Cemetery. Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon Claud was the eldest child of Maud Ruthanar Burnap and Robert Lindford Cole. He was born at Prairie Creek, Oregon on August 24, 1888. Claud’s name sake was his paternal grandmother Catherine Lindford, 3rd wife of Rev. William Person Cole, AKA Wiley P. Cole Sr. His elementary schooling was started there and completed in Touchet, Washington, and in Lost Prairie, Oregon where he graduated from the eight grade.
