Biography of Dewitt Clinton
DeWitt Clinton, born in 1769 in Orange County, New York, was a prominent political figure and advocate for various social reforms, including the abolition of slavery. Educated at Columbia College, he held multiple government positions, including Mayor of New York and U.S. Senator. Most notably, Clinton was instrumental in the construction of the Erie Canal, overcoming widespread skepticism.
