Wallowa, Oregon Mae Roop Schriver, 95, of Milwaukie died Feb. 8, 2008. The daughter of Monroe and Ida Roop, she was born June 28, 1912, in Wallowa. A graduate of Wallowa High School and the University of Oregon School of Nursing, she married Don Schriver in 1938. A registered nurse for many years, she served in La Grande and the Portland area. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Don, in 1971, and four siblings: Carrie Rounsavell, Carlton Roop, Pearl Eads and Pat Paulson. Alvin Wayne Stitt, 90, of Portland and formerly of La Grande died Oct. 1. A funeral service will be held Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3722 NE Going St. in Portland. Alvin was born July 1, 1917, in La Grande. He moved to Portland in 1937 and served in the US Army during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa, India and Burma. Peter Goebel Is Laid To Final Rest Thursday Mass was said Thursday morning in the Catholic church here for Peter Goebel, who died early Tuesday morning at his home here after a month’s illness. Slack, Emra – Obituary

Summerville, Union County, Oregon Emra Slack, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Burr Slack, of Summerville, died at the Grande Ronde hospital at 4 o’clock this morning. He was brought to La Grande suffering from pneumonia, an aftermath of influenza, a week ago Monday. The decedent’s father, who with the mother and several brothers and sisters, left the hospital the day Emra was taken there for treatment.
