George O’Brien, 72, a pioneer Washington state resident and a resident of this city and area for the past 40 years, died this morning at the Valley General hospital [January 30, 1951]. He was a farmer and farm worker. A native of Wisconsin, he came to this state in 1892. He had been a widower for the past 20 years. He and his wife, the former Susie Wheeler, were married here in 1904. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. L. W. Mrs. Amelia McEwen, aged 63 years, died at her home in this county last Saturday [October 27, 1898]. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in this city on Monday, Rev. Smith officiating. Deceased leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss. Jerusah was the daughter of William McMillan and Elizabeth Wyatt. Mabel Kinkade, 86, a long-time resident of Kittitas County, died Tuesday November 10, 1981 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Born May 1, 1895, in Bottineau, ND, she came to the Kittitas Valley at the age of five with her parents. Her father, Ben Olson, managed the old Tjossem Flouring Mill, where the Millpond Mobile Manor now stands. She married Dallas Kinkade in 1917. The death of Mrs. Rebecca Jane Hayes, wife of Sanford Hayes, occurred on Sunday morning [May 25, 1913], after a lingering illness. The funeral services took place on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Kittitas Baptist Church, Mr. Hanson of the Church of Latter Day Saints officiating, and were attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. Last Sunday afternoon about two o’clock Frank Uebelacker passed away. Mr. Uebelacker was born in Germany 44 years ago, came to America, stopping at Streator, Ills., in 1882; came to Kittitas valley and married Miss Anna Michel, July 16, 1888. To this union nine children were born, eight of whom are living. The funeral was held from St. Andrews church Wednesday at 10 a.m. Frank was born September 1860 and died December 22, 1904. Death Take Well-Known Resident Oscar Mcewen Oscar (Ott) McEwen, well-known Ellensburg resident, died Sunday at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 89 years old [died June 4, 1967]. McEwen was one of the last true cowboys in the northwest, and the familiar scene of McEwen astride his horse, riding through town, was a common-place occurrence. Ada C. Cooke, 89, formerly of 103 S. Clark in Kittitas, died Friday at Haven House Nursing Home [died May 22, 1981]. She was born in Lincoln, Neb. on Aug. 3, 1891. She came to Ellensburg from Cle Elum in 1905 with brother Orval and her father, A. E. Rich. Another member of our ‘little’ Grand Army post answered the final call Friday [June 8, 1917] when J. W. Dixon died. Just a week after his 88th birthday, which occurred on Memorial Day, he passed quietly away after an illness of only a few hours.
