Slave Narrative of Henry Anthony
Henry Anthony, interviewed by Irene Robertson in Biscoe, Arkansas, recounts his experiences as a former enslaved person. Born in Jackson, North Carolina, he worked for the Williams family before they were sold. After emancipation, he farmed and later moved to Biscoe, where he worked for various landowners. Though he never attended school, he participated in voting, expressing skepticism about women’s roles in politics. At 84, he reflects on hardships, savings, and his son’s decisions regarding land ownership.
