Tragedy interrupted preparations for what would otherwise have been a pleasant family dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sardis McQueen, near Clifford, in Bartholomew county, when Mrs. Emma May Oltman, 52 years old, wife of William A. Oltman, of Jackson township in Shelby county, fell from a kitchen doorway to the hard floor of a fruit cellar below, fracturing her skull and breaking her neck. Oltman, William A. – Obituary

William A. Oltman, 82, resident of Marion township, died at Major Hospital at 1:15 this morning following an illness of six months. Born near Hope March 31, 1873, Mr. Oltman, a farmer, had spent most of his life in Shelby county. His parents were Dirk and Susan (Reed) Oltman. He was a member of the Haw Patch Baptist Church near Clifford. In 1898 he was married to Emma Stoughton whose death occurred in 1933. He is survived by four children.
