Biographical Sketch of Edward Payson Roe

Edward Payson Roe, born in 1838 in Orange County, New York, became a notable novelist, achieving widespread acclaim both in the U.S. and internationally. Initially studying for the ministry, Roe’s education was interrupted by illness, and he served as a Civil War chaplain. After his pastoral work, he focused on writing, producing popular novels such as “Barriers Burned Away” and “Play and Profit in My Garden.” His literary contributions included numerous novels and works on horticulture until his death in 1888.
