Richland, Baker County, Oregon George Verne Allensworth Jr., 76, died April 4, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Health Services. There was a celebration of George’s life Friday at the Richland Christian Church. Inurnment was at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland. Friends joined the family for a reception afterward at the Richland Christian Church. George Verne Allensworth Jr. was born on Dec. 10, 1929, at Galesburg, Ill., to George Verne and Francis Marie Lander Allensworth. George was raised and educated at Galesburg. Theron Leroy “Terry” Springer, 55, a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 23, 2000, at Seattle, Wash., of natural causes. A private service will be held later. Mr. Springer was born on Aug. 13, 1945, at Oxnard, Calif., to Theron Eugene and Dorothy Mae Davis Springer. He attended school at Baker City and in Seattle. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 and was stationed on the USS Whitehurst. He also spent some time on a submarine as well. Baker City, Baker County, Oregon Karen Lei Yost, 55, died Feb. 3, 2006, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated in Salem with a graveside service and burial in Hawaii, where she was born and raised. Cremation is under the direction of Golden’s Mortuary of Salem. Survivors include her husband, Jim; her son, Russell; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Glenn and Bev Hescock of Baker City; and two brothers and a sister, who live at Hilo, Hawaii. Baker City, Oregon Earl M. Spivey, 84, of 2610 Indiana Ave., died Sept. 7, 2002, at his home. His body was cremated. At his request, there will be no funeral. Earl was born to Luther A. Spivey and Ora Lee Ellis Spivey at Haw Knob, Tenn., on June 18, 1918. He came to Baker City as a young man in 1929. He attended South Baker School and then entered the U.S. Army in 1938.
