March 4, 1917 – Dec. 19, 2006 Letha Alma (McCullough) Bell died Tuesday at Corvallis Manor. She was born in Haines. She attended school nearby at Rock Creek Elementary and graduated from high school in Haines. She married Howard Bell in Baker City on December 24, 1936. They lived and worked in the local mining and timber industry until moving to Hoskins in 1949. Letha was involved in local women’s clubs and some church-related groups until moving to Corvallis in 1995. Letha was a mother of three children, Ivan, Carol and Ronald, and grandmother to seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. … Read more

John Edward Maxwell, 70, who was born and lived until his retirement at Haines, died Tuesday afternoon June 18, in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Boise. Services for Mr. Maxwell were conducted Monday afternoon at the Baptist Chruch in Haines. The Rev. Lloyd A. Malmstrom and the Rev. Dennis officiated. Gas From Car Brings Death To McCullough Frank McCullough, retired farmer of Haines, was killed by monoxide gas from an automobile in the garage at his home there shortly before noon last Friday. He is said to have been in the closed garage about ten minutes when found by Fred Shanklin, who has been living at the McCullough home all winter.
