Gangasco

Gangasco, derived from the term shingascui meaning level, wet, and grassy ground, was a significant Powhatan village located near present-day Eastville, Virginia. It served as a prominent site for the Accomac or Accohanoc tribe, known as the Gingaskins, in 1722. The village was inhabited until 1833 when its residents were displaced, leading to a mixing of populations with African Americans. Alternate spellings of the name include Gangascoe, reflecting its historical significance in Virginia’s tribal history.
