Biography of Edward Huggins
Edward Huggins, born in London in 1832, emigrated to Vancouver Island in 1850, where he began working for the Hudson’s Bay Company as a clerk. He primarily operated at Fort Nisqually, engaging in fur trading and overseeing agricultural operations. During the Indian War of 1855-56, he managed livestock operations under challenging conditions. Huggins became an American citizen in 1857 and later settled in Pierce County, where he engaged in farming, stock-raising, and public service, including two terms as county auditor. He currently resides in Tacoma, Washington.
