Biography of Samuel H. Mayes

Samuel H. Mayes, born on May 11, 1845, in the Cherokee Nation, has been a prominent figure in Pryor, Oklahoma, since 1906, where he serves as President of the Mayes Mercantile Company. His early life involved farming and stock raising before engaging in mercantile pursuits. Mayes was elected as the last chief of the Cherokee Nation in 1895. He married Martha E. Vann in 1871 and later wed Minnie Harrison in 1913. A Methodist and Mason, he is known for his community involvement and business acumen.
