Biographical Sketch of John B. Dinsmore

John B. Dinsmore, born on April 10, 1850, in Daviess County’s Jackson Township, was educated locally. He ventured to Kansas in 1870, working in railroading before returning to Daviess County in 1872, where he served as township constable and collector. After shifting to farming and stock-raising, he later transitioned into butchering and stock-trading in Jamesport. Dinsmore married M. M. Travis on March 9, 1876, and is regarded as a capable businessman within his community.

Biography of W. L. Stowers

W. L. Stowers, born on August 2, 1843, in Marion County, Missouri, became a notable businessman as the proprietor of the West Plains Hotel, established in 1883. Orphaned at four, he was raised by relatives and pursued education until the Civil War disrupted his studies. Following a successful stint in gold mining in Montana, he returned to Missouri, married Bettie Maddox, and engaged in farming before entering the hotel industry. Stowers is also involved in local finance and community organizations, remaining a prominent Democratic figure in West Plains.
