Miller, Henry – Obituary

Henry Miller, an honored pioneer of Wallowa county, died at his home in Turlock, California, Sunday morning aged 73 years. No particulars of his death has been received. Mr. Miller was born in Virginia and cmae to Oregon 30 years ago. He was active in the upbuilding of this county and no man was mre highly respected. He served two terms as county treasurer. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Enterprise native, Melvin Varner, 68, of Forest Grove, died July 21, 1995, at his home from lung problems due to smoking. He was born May 8, 1927, at the family home near Enterprise, the son of Albert G. and Cecile (Lay) Varner. On December 2, 1946, he married Dolores Isakson. Enterprise, Oregon Lois Eileen (Ward) Anderson Funeral Services were conducted Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Richard Anderson (Lois Ward), 28, of Oregon City. Rev. Earl Rogers officiated. “Fall Is Fatal To H.S. Fisher” While helping wreck box cars at the East Oregon lumber yard Saturday, H.S. Fisher fell to the ground. He struck the back of his head on a flat car and fractured his skull and suffered other severe bruises and was taken to the hospital unconsciousness and passed away late Monday night. Harris, Dewey – Obituary

Dewey L. Harris Murdered in Idaho A telegram was received Saturday saying that Dewey Harris, a former resident of Enterprise, had been found dead, evidently murdered. It has been learned that he was murdered Friday afternoon by a fellow worker because of jealousy over a woman. The fellow afterwards confessed. Dewey spent 18 months overseas and since returning had taken a job on the ranch, where he was murdered. He was a son of Marion Harris who left Enterprise a couple of years ago. Enterprise, Oregon Wayne Clark died of natural causes at a care facility in Star, Idaho, on May 31, 2006. He was 96. Mr. Clark was born on Sept. 23, 1909 on a homestead ranch in Hill City, Idaho, to Frank and Viola Clark. He was one of seven children. He went to high school in Carey, Idaho, after the Clark family moved to a ranch outside of Picabo, Idaho. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Henry Herzog Dies After Long Illness Henry B.Herzog passed away at the St. Joseph hospital, La Grande, Sunday, March 9,1941. He had suffered from cancer for months and was taken to the hospital for care. An operation was performed last Tuesday but nothing could restore him to health. Enterprise, Oregon John C. Stein, 96, of Enterprise, died Monday 21, 1990, at the Wallowa County Nursing Home. He was born in Spokane county, Washington. Wallowa, Oregon Mary A. Carper died Oct. 7, 2005, at the Regency At the Park. She was 78 years old. She was born Oct. 19, 1926 in Enterprise to Emmet and Erma Chenoweth Landers. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Thomas E. Hinton passed away suddenly Thursday; March 8, 1928, at the Enterprise hospital where he had been a few days for treatment. A horse had stepped on one foot and serious infection had resulted. One toe was removed and it thought it was the source of the poison was eliminated and the patient would mend. Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon James Daniel Simmons, the small son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Simmons, passed away Monday, October 9, 1922, at Enterprise. The cause of his death was a broken appendix. Ostrander, John – Obituary

John Ostrander died Monday June 13, 1932, at the Enterprise hospital, of cancer of the stomach. He had lived in the upper valley many years but little was know of his life and family connections. He was about 67 years old and it is believed was born in Indiana. He was married but separated from his family, and had a sister in the east. Funeral services were held at Joseph Monday. Child of Mr. And Mrs. L.J. Smith Enterprise, Oregon The death of another child was reported in the streets as being due to influenza, but the physicians belief this was not the case. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Smith of East Crow creek and been ill for a week and tonsillitis developed, which apparently was the cause of death.
