Biographical Sketch of John Burns
John Burns, born on September 4, 1831, in Delaware County, New York, moved to Iowa before returning to New York and ultimately settling in Jewell County, Kansas, in 1872. He was elected County Treasurer in 1873, successfully re-elected in 1875 and 1879. A member of the Masonic fraternity, he married Jane Love in July 1864 in Delaware, New York, and they have two children, Edgar A. and Lulu.
