Layton, Merle Alta Lewis – Obituary

Merle Alta Layton, a lifelong resident of Lewis County, passed away at the age of 70 on May 8, 1966, in a Chehalis hospital. Born January 19, 1896, in Clatskanie, Oregon, she is survived by her three daughters, a son, and numerous half-sisters, stepsisters, grandchildren, and extended family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Fir Lawn Funeral Chapel in Toledo, with interment to follow at the Toledo Cemetery.

Basse, Wilhelmina Isaacson Jacobson – Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Wilhelmina Basse were conducted on November 30 at the Finnish Lutheran Church in Centerville, led by Rev. C. J. Sacarisen. Mrs. Basse, aged 74, passed away on Thanksgiving at Goldendale General Hospital. Born in Sweden, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1891 and married William Jacobson in 1895, who died in 1900. She later married Wilhelm Basi in 1901. Survived by her husband, three sons, a daughter, and five grandchildren, she was interred at Centerville Grange Cemetery.

Miller, C Jack- Obituary

C. Jack Miller, 86, passed away on February 19, 2003, in Baker City, Oregon. He was born on July 30, 1916, in Pilot Rock and had a distinguished military career during World War II. After returning from the war, he operated an insurance agency in Baker City, where he was active in community organizations. He was a devoted family man, married to LaVera Knox, with whom he raised two children. A memorial service will be held at Coles Funeral Home, followed by fellowship at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Cora Jane Dooly – Obituary

Cora Jane Dooly, 88, of Clatskanie and formerly of Baker City, passed away on December 1, 2002, in Longview, Washington. Born on August 8, 1914, in Clarkston, Idaho, she graduated from Clarkston High School in 1932 and married James Warren Dooly in 1936. They moved to Baker City in 1949. An active community member, she supported local schools and the First Methodist Church. Cora is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at the Westport Community Church.
