LaGrande, Union County, Oregon Theodore Sidor, 62, of Corvallis, died Monday of natural causes while traveling in Alexandria,Va. Mr. Sidor, a former La Grande resident, had lived in Corvallis and was a current member of the city council. He was a professor emeritus at Oregon State University. Phoebe Ellen Cosens, 89, of Halfway, died Aug. 13, 2005, at Settlers Park Assisted Living center. Her graveside funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Pine Haven Cemetery in Halfway. Mrs. B.T. Long received word Thursday evening of the death of her father, P. L. Courtney at Payette, Idaho and left for that place Friday. M. O. Courtney of Lostine accompanied her. P. L. Ivan Jim Whitt, 86, who lived in Baker City before moving to the Tri-Cities area, died December 16, 2005, in the loving arms of his family. He was born April 7, 1915, in Leander, Texas, and resided in Tularosa, New Mexico, until going into the Army in October 1942. Jim served with the 690th Replacement Company throughout the Luzon campaign during World War II. He was discharged in February 1946 and served as an Air Force reservist until January 1960. Virgil L. Calavan, 75, former Albany mayor who was active in civic affairs here for many years, died Friday morning in a Corvallis hospital after a long illness. Mr. Calavan was the former owner of a drug store in East Albany which is now Lammers’ Pharmacy. After selling the East Albany store he operated Mason’s Drug Store in downtown Albany, which is now owned by Gerald Steele. He had lived in Corvallis since 1946.
