JOHN M. NEWMAN. – The gentleman whom we here introduce to the reader, and a view of whose residence is placed in this history, is a native of Sullivan County, Missouri, and was born August 10,1851. While but a lad of thirteen he came to eastern Oregon, and, after a sojourn of a year upon the sage-brush plains, continued the march to the Willamette valley. Final Rites to Be Tomorrow for Olive Slater, Early-Day Teacher Olive Agnes Slater, for whom funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday at the Snodgrass Funeral home, daughter of the late James H. and Edna Elizabeth Slater was born at Corvallis March 29, 1860. She with her parents went to Auburn, Ore., in 1864, coming to La Grande two years later. Coulter, Dusty Clark – Obituary

La Grande, Oregon Dustin Clark Coulter, 33, of Portland and formerly of La Grande, took his life on March 26. A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m. March 30 at the First Baptist Church in La Grande, 1702 Sixth St. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Known as Dusty, he was born April 21, 1973, in Corvallis and was raised in both Salem and La Grande. After high school he worked various jobs in La Grande until moving to Portland in August 2006. Colter, Norma Fay – Obituary

Norma Fay (Horn) Colter, 75, formerly of Elgin, died March 5 at Corvallis. A funeral was held for her at Northside Church in Corvallis on March 8. A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. March 22 at the Elgin Methodist Church. The family has indicated that floral arrangement are not necessary. Born July 6, 1932, to Mercedes McCain, Norma was raised from birth by Arthur and Annie McCain.
