Georgie Lee Proffitt, 68, of Albany, and a former Baker City resident, died Dec. 22, 2001, at her home due to complications from cancer. Her funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at AAsum Funeral Home, 805 Ellsworth Street S.W. in Albany. Interment will be at Willamette Memorial Park. Visitations will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Nancy Wilson Passwater was born to Jessie and Rebecca McClellan Wilson in Noblesville, Hamilton County, Indiana, July 17, 1828. At the age of sixteen she joined the Christian Church of that city during the pastorate of Brother Longly. On September 14, 1847, she was united in marriage to Samuel Passwater, who proceeded her in death October 8, 1896 in Bates County, Missouri. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Melvina White of Fremont, Iowa, and Mrs. Emeline Beckett, of Passaic, Missouri, both of whom are still living. Mrs. Emeline Passwater Beckett, 93 years of age passed away at the home of her son Charles Beckett, Southeast of Adrian, January 29, 1949. Mrs. Beckett was the daughter of Nancy Wilson and Samuel P. Passwater. Born July 28, 1855 at Freemont, Iowa. Mrs. Beckett has been a resident of Bates County since 1866. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Meyer of Kansas City, and three sons, Charles of Passaic, Julius of Kansas City, Missouri, Ivan of San Francisco, California.
