Biography of Alvin W. Sanders
Alvin W. Sanders, born on October 5, 1850, in Pittsfield, was the son of William and Adeline Sanders. His family, rooted in shoemaking and farming, produced a lineage of merchants and tradesmen. Alvin was educated in Barnstead and worked in various cotton mills before serving eleven years at the New Hampshire Insane Asylum. In 1889, he established a general store in Pittsfield, offering groceries and provisions. Married to Augusta Sanborn, he was politically active as a Prohibitionist and involved in local organizations and the Free Will Baptist church.
