Delores Jean was born July 25, 1931, at Estherville, Iowa, to Thomas and Thelma L. Sampson Blom. She was raised and educated in Iowa. Delores met Robert L. Pogue, a serviceman home on leave visiting his sisters, and after a short courtship the two were married in 1951. The couple moved to Oregon in 1956.
