Biography of Joseph Huntoon
Joseph Huntoon, born in Hanover, New Hampshire, on April 17, 1812, moved to Illinois in 1837. He was the first shoemaker in Moline, establishing his trade in a burgeoning community. Huntoon also ventured into brickmaking, significantly contributing to the local economy. A dedicated church member, he served as a deacon and led a Boys Club. He and his wife, Sylvia, had five children, all raised in Moline. Huntoon’s perseverance and business acumen allowed him to accumulate wealth and provide for his family.
