Altadena California

Altadena is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Los Angeles County, located in southern California at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains along the Arroyo Seco, an area originally inhabited by Native American groups including the Tongva prior to Spanish and Mexican land grants and later American settlement in the 19th century. Los Angeles County was established in 1850, and genealogically relevant records—such as land grants, deeds, probate files, and court proceedings—date from that time, with earlier records found in Spanish and Mexican archives; Altadena developed in the 1880s as a residential community following subdivision of Rancho San Pasqual lands and expansion of rail and road connections from nearby Pasadena, with a post office established in 1888, and researchers must rely on county, church, cemetery, and regional records, as Altadena has remained unincorporated with no separate municipal record system.

Leake, Minnie Morrow – Obituary

Mrs. Minnie Leake, aged 79, passed away on October 7, 1947, at her daughter’s home in Altadena, California. Final rites were conducted in Shelton. A pioneer descendant of Mason County, she was the granddaughter of William M. Morrow, an early settler. Her husband, Charles Leake, a longtime employee of the Merrill Ring company, predeceased her in 1946. The couple lived in Seattle and were part of the foundational Morrow, Shelton, and Webb families. She was interred at Shelton Memorial Cemetery.
