Allen's Grove Iowa

Allen’s Grove is an unincorporated locality and early settlement area in Worth County in north-central Iowa, established in the mid-1850s during initial Euro-American settlement following the organization of Worth County in 1851; the region was previously inhabited by Dakota (Sioux) peoples prior to their removal. The community took its name from early settler families named Allen, and genealogical records for residents are found primarily at the county level, including land deeds, probate, and court records beginning in the 1850s, with vital records supplemented by township records, church registers, and cemetery inscriptions. The area lies within the Shell Rock River watershed, with prairie and groves of timber influencing early settlement patterns, and early transportation consisted of wagon roads connecting farms to nearby trading points such as Northwood. Researchers should also consult records under surrounding townships and early county histories, as Allen’s Grove never developed into an incorporated municipality but remained a rural settlement cluster.
