Alexander Ohio

Alexander, Ohio generally refers to Alexander Township in Athens County, Ohio, an early political subdivision surveyed and established in 1795 during the early settlement of southeastern Ohio as the Northwest Territory opened for settlement; it was one of the original townships created when Athens County was formed and originally encompassed a much larger area that later became several other townships. The township includes unincorporated communities such as Pleasanton, where a post office was established in 1851—a key genealogical marker indicating community identity and mail service. Government and education in the area are tied to local structures such as the Alexander Local School District centered near Albany, Ohio, and Alexander High School. For genealogical research, Alexander Township and Athens County records (land, probate, vital statistics, and census returns) are maintained through county offices and local historical repositories, with documentation available from the late 18th/early 19th century onward.
