Biography of Sidney Thorne Able
Sidney Thorne Able was born on February 24, 1889, in Water Valley, Mississippi, to a prominent banking family. He spent his early years in Mississippi before moving to St. Louis to study law at Washington University, where he excelled academically. After passing the Missouri bar, he began his legal career and quickly rose to prominence as a trial lawyer. He married Grace Shafer in 1914, and they had three children. Throughout his life, Able maintained his ties to his family’s legacy in banking and plantation management.
