Mrs. J. M. Conley Dies, Early Settler Here

Mrs. J.M. Conley, resident of the Flora district for many years, passed away at a nursing home at Milton, Monday, February 26. She had been in poor health for some years and had been cared for in a private institution. Funeral services were held yesterday at Milton, and were attended by her daughters who live in Wallowa county, and by Mrs. J. C. Conley and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Strickler.

Mary Eliza Wood was born December 6, 1859, and was married to Jesse Monroe Conley at Mulberry, Missouri, December 25, 1878. They moved to Linn county, Kansas, where they lived until 1888 when they came to Oregon and took a homestead north of Flora. For 20 years they continued on the farm and then moved into the town of Flora, remaining until 1926. They retired from active work and spent their time with their children after that. Mr. Conley passed away at Milton March 5, 1936.

Five children survive Mrs. Conley: Durwood D. Conley of Eugene, Mrs. Ray Austin of Flora, Mrs. Jay V. Shroll of Joseph, Mrs. Glenn Strickler of Milton and Mrs. Dudley Shumway of Los Angeles, California.
