Biography of Rufus Mallory
Rufus Mallory, born June 10, 1831, in Chenango County, New York, came from a New England family. Despite limited educational opportunities, he demonstrated a strong desire to become a lawyer. He began his legal studies while working as a clerk and later taught school in Iowa before moving to Oregon in 1859. Mallory built a distinguished legal career, serving as a Prosecuting Attorney, a state legislator, and a Congressman. Known for his legal acumen, he gained recognition in high-profile cases and established a successful law practice. He was married to Lucy A. Rose and had one son.
