Leslie, Glenn E. – Obituary

Glenn E. Leslie died last Friday, September 19, 1919, at Joseph, after an illness of only a few days. He had not been in rugged health for some years, and at the last, a weakness of the heart proved fatal.

At the first of the week Mr. Leslie went fishing for yanks at the head of the lake. He had not been feeling any too well before, and pneumonia developed. With the best of attention and nursing, the fever was broken and the patient seemed to have every chance of recovery, but his heart failed him in the crisis. His mother, Mrs. Anna Leslie, and his sisters, Mrs. Agnes Claycomb of La Grande and Mrs. Claire Mullen of Joseph, and his brother, J. Ross Leslie now living at La Grande, were with him when his spirit departed.

Glenn Ellsworth Leslie was born at Corn, Iowa, Aug. 3, 1884. He came to Oregon in 1885 and had made his home here ever since. He was married to Teresa Bliss at Ogden, Utah, April 5, 1911, and the widow and three children survive. The children are: Bliss, aged 7; Jimmie, aged 4, and Johanna, aged 3.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Joseph, and was conducted by Rev. L.A. Cook, former pastor who came from Union to pay tribute to his former friend, and Rev. C.L. Walker, the present pastor. Services at the grave were conducted by the Masonic Fraternity.

Mr. Leslie will be missed by his personal friends and business associates who had learned his sterling qualities and held him in highest esteem. Mrs. Leslie and children will go to her former home in Ohio shortly, and so the community will lose the family.
