Pioneer Mother Answers Call

Mrs. Delilah Beem passed away at the Wallowa county hospital Fe. 29,1948.

Delilah Ellen Troy, daughter of David and Ellen Troy, was born at Elgin, Ore., July 4, 1873. She was united in marriage to John A. Logan Beem on Nov. 13, 1891, and to this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Beem spent her early childhood in and near Elgin and grew to young womanhood there. When she married she moved with Mr. Beem to his homestead on Trout Creek near Enterprise where they lived for 11 years and where four of their children were born. Because of her physical condition she spent the last several years of her life with her youngest son.

She leaves to mourn her loss four children, Verdi Hug of Summerville: Dorothy Holmsback of Toledo, Ore., Edwin L. Beam of Enterprise, and Delphia Hunt of Portland; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, other relatives and numerous friends.

Mrs. Beem was a member of the Christian church and a faithful Christian. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and by her friends as a good neighbor and friend.

Services were held at the Church of Christ at Elgin Wednesday. Rev. O.W. Jones of Wallowa assisted by Rev. Earl Rogers, Pastor of the Nazarene church at Enterprise, had charge of the services. Burial was in the cemetery at Summerville.
