Charles Bates, 48, of Ontario, died July 30 at his home of natural causes. A celebration of life will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the LDS Church house at 710 S. Curtis Road in Boise. Cremation was held.
He was born Sept. 16, 1958, to Jay and Jeanne Bates in Rigby Idaho. He was the fourth child.
Chuck grew up in Boise where he was active in sports. After marrying he moved his family to Oregon where he spent many years coaching multiple sports. Chuck worked hard at being a positive influence and was proud of his role in the community, family members said, and as a coach at Ontario High he left an indelible mark on his players. He is fondly remembered as Coach Bates.
He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Michael and Nicole Bates of Boise and Robert and Brittany Bates of La Grande; mother, Jeanne Bates of Boise; brothers, Reed and Kris Bates of Boise, and Morgan and Lynne Bates of Seattle; sisters, Rhonda Marlow and Tawna and Howard Chase; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario High Football program at Ontario High School, 1115 W. Idaho Ave. Ontario 97914.
