By 1000 AD the village had become a town with several neighborhoods. There were also satellite villages for farmers established along the Ocmulgee Bottoms. Two conical structures were constructed along points of an Isoceles triangle in a neighborhood to the northeast of the main town. The temple in this village was dedicated to the Corn Goddess. One of the conical structures was incorrectly re-constructed in the mid-20th century and labeled an “earth lodge.” The name has stuck.
