Allen, early pioneers of Wallowa passed away in the Walla Walla Hospital of a heart attack Thursday evening, January 24, 1952. Mr. Allen was born in Wallowa on December 18, 1883 and spent the early part of his life in Lower Valley and Lostine where he attended school and later was in the hardware and furniture business with his brother, Challis. Levi Arbon Allen, born March 6, 1895 in Bradford, Tennessee, died February 18, 1958. He was the youngest child of Margaret Bell and Bevely Allen, and came to Wallowa, Oregon with his father in 1904. They took out a homestead on Smith Mountain where Arbon grew to manhood. He was married to Violet Hearing who survives him. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Joe Allen Dead In Train Wreck Enterprise Man Killed at La Grande on way to Market with Stock Joe Allen, well known at his home in Enterprise and elsewhere in Wallowa county, was killed in the railroad yards at La Grande last Saturday evening. He was on his way to Portland with a car of hogs. The body was brought back to Enterprise on Monday and the funeral, conducted by the Odd Fellows lodge, was held Tuesday morning. 1929-2003 James Burn Allen, 74, formerly of Wallowa, died Sept. 25 in Western Oregon. A graveside gathering will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Lostine Cemetery. Allen was born April 26, 1929, in Wallowa. He spent much of his younger years hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Elvin Willard Allen died Jan. 30, 1996, at the home of his great-niece, Julie Wetzel. He was 93 years of age. He was born Feb 28, 1903 in Wallowa, the second son of Jess and Daisy Allen of Middle Valley. He lived on the family farm until the 1930’s when he moved to Newport. He was a carpenter by trade and he served in World War II where he helped with building projects on various islands after they were bombed. Mrs. Akes was born August 23, 1919 in Pendleton to James Wallace and Lucia Mae Tilton Spencer. On February 27, 1943, she married Charles Leonard Akes, Sr. at Olympia, Wash. She worked at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle as a “Rosie the Riveter,” putting the metal skin on B-17 bombers, while her husband served overseas during World War II. Wallowa, Wallowa County, Oregon Obit Bert Adams committed suicide sometime Thursday night in the county jail where Sheriff Rinehart had given him lodging for the evening. He walked down from the logging camp the night before and had been at the pool halls and other places during the day and evening. Ruth Ackerman, 41 and five children died Tuesday, November 29, when a fire leveled their log home at Priest River, Idaho. The father, William Ackerman, 48, thought his family was behind him when he rushed to the door but they weren’t. The minute he opened the door the house became an inferno. A sixth child, Randy, 15 was sleeping in a nearby camper vehicle and was not injured.
