La Grande, Oregon Donald W. Gibbs, 77, of Redmond and formerly of La Grande, died March 12 of Parkinson’s disease. A private family memorial service took place March 17. Redmond Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements. Mr. Gibbs was born Sept. 13, 1929, to Hallie and Mary (Kane) Gibbs in Spokane, Wash. He began working as a baker at the age of 15 and continued in that profession most of his life. On April 1, 1950, he married Carolyn Killingbeck in La Grande, where they lived before moving to Redmond. He owned Gibbs Bakery in downtown Redmond for 43 years. He … Read more

Gibbons died early this morning at his home on the corner of Lincoln avenue and Russel street. he was 25 years of age and a member of both the Knights of Pythias and United Workman lodges. His daeth is a particularly sad one, since late last night his only child, a little son, died also, leaving the young widow alone and childless. Elgin, Union County, Oregon George Gent, the 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gent, died at the home of his parents in this city Tuesday afternoon, July 17, 1906. Deceased had been suffering from poor health for several months, and returned a few weeks ago from Portland, where he had been receiving medical tretment, feeling much improved. The change for better, however, lasted only a few days, and his fatal illness began three weeks ago. Funeral services for Fred H. Geer, 51, ex-Portland resident, who died in Tacoma Thursday, will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock at the Lincoln Memorial cemetery. Services were held at Tacoma yesterday. Mr. Geer was a son of ex-Governor T. T. Geer. He was born at Cove, Or. He lived here many years. Addie Geer, 93, a retired homemaker from Cove, died Sept. 12 at a local nursing home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cove Seventh Day Adventist Church, with elder Al Heitzmann officiating. Burial will follow at the Cove Cemetery. Elgin, Union County, Oregon Former Elgin Man Killed Accidentally Orval Gawith, a native son of Elgin, was accidentally killed at Mt. Vernon, Oregon Monday evening. Available information indicated that while he was unloading a load of logs the top log on his load slipped off and crushed him to the ground beneath it. Price Gates, 67, died Tuesday morning in the St. Elizabeth hospital following a weeks illness. Mr. Gates lived in Union county for a number of years and was well known throughout eastern Oregon, especially as a trainer of race horses. Cove, Oregon Gladys Lucille Gassoway, 88, of Portland and formerly of Cove died Aug. 30. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 5 at the Sellwood Baptist Church. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 6 in Sumner, Wash. Mrs. Gassoway was born Gladys Ryan April 1, 1918, in Sumner. She married the Rev. M. Murl Gassoway in 1940. Funeral services were held at Union Dec. 11 at 10 o’clock for William B. Gasset, aged 56, who passed away at Nampa, Ida., Dec. 6. He was buried in the family plot at Lower Cove. Pneumonia was the cause of his death. He had been a resident of Cove and Union until the past few years. He is survived by a widow and two daughters besides numerous other relatives. Gardner passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. John Simonis 1534 Second street, in Baker, last Tuesday morning.
