The University of Central Arkansas, located in Conway, Arkansas, is a public university established in 1907 as the Arkansas State Normal School. As one of the oldest institutions in the state, UCA has played a crucial role in the education system, primarily serving as the main source of teachers for Arkansas. At its inception, it was the state’s only normal school, part of a network of approximately 180 normal schools founded by state governments across the United States to train teachers for the expanding public school system.
The Arkansas State Legislature created the Arkansas State Normal School, now known as the University of Central Arkansas, in 1907. In 1925, Arkansas State Normal School became Arkansas State Teachers College.
