Aldermans in America

Aldermans in America is a genealogical study tracing the history of the Alderman family in the United States. Originally conceived by John Thomas Alderman, the project was intended to document the southern branch of the family and its origins. However, due to his passing before its completion, his nephew, William Alderman Parker, took on the task of compiling, editing, and expanding the manuscript into a complete historical record.

The research presented in this volume follows the Alderman family from its early English roots through its migration to North America. It details the arrival of the three Alderman brothers in North Carolina from New Jersey in 1755, marking the beginning of the family’s southern lineage. Parker’s extensive research efforts included personal visits, correspondence, and document analysis, leading to an expanded scope that includes Aldermans in New England, the Midwest, and other parts of the country.

This book is structured to provide both historical context and genealogical records. The early sections explore the origins of the Alderman name, its significance, and its use in England. Subsequent sections trace the family’s establishment in the American colonies, their movements, and key figures in their lineage. The work is supplemented by an appendix containing articles, clippings, and additional material of interest to Alderman descendants.

Recognizing the evolving nature of genealogical study, Parker acknowledges that this work is not exhaustive and encourages future generations to continue expanding upon the research. The inclusion of an index and a structured numbering system aims to facilitate further study and provide a clear reference for family members seeking to trace their lineage.
