Mrs. Mary Gwin, 90, former Poweshiek County resident, died June 2 [1963] at Waterloo where she had made her home with a daughter for the past 23 years.
Funeral services were held June 5 from the McAninch Funeral Home in Victor with the Rev. James Robinson of the Malcom Methodist Church officiating. Vocal music was by Hollis Fish, accompanied by Mrs. Bette Rieke at the organ.
Pallbearers were Vern Ocheltree, Vic VanHamme, Horace Wahl, Richard Hull, Roy LeBeau, and Forest Farnum. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery at Victor.
The daughter of Peter and Barbara Niswander Breneman, she was born March 10, 1873 in Greenmount, Va. When she was two years old, the family moved to Millersburg, Iowa, where she received her education. The family then moved to Carnforth where she became a member of the Congregational Church, later attending at Victor.
She was married to William Fry on April 3, 1895, and to this union two children were born, Paul of Marshalltown and Mrs. Henry (Esther) Stahl of Grinnell. Her husband died in 1901 and she was married to Jacob R. Gwin of Victor on Nov. 4, 1903. He died Oct. 28, 1937. They made their home on a farm south of Victor until retiring and were the parents of three children-Clarence, who died Jan. 5, 1903, Arnold of Guernsey, and Mrs. Margaret Reedy of Waterloo.
She is survived by 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Suzanne Bucknam of Council Bluffs; and a brother, Edward of Eugene, Ore.
Also preceding her in death were four brothers-William, Oscar, John, and Frank; and a sister, Mrs. Emma O’Halloran.
