Cleve W. Coppin, 90, of Joseph died April 11. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday April 15 at the Prairie Creek Cemetery with Craig Strobel officiating.

Mr. Coppin was born May 31, 1914, to E.J. and Marian Woolsey Coppin. He was a rancher and during World War II worked for the War Foods Administration. On June 20, 1942, he married Caryl Leehmann in Lakeview. He was a charter member of the Wallowa County Woolgrowers, and served as secretary-treasurer for 25 years of the Wallowa Valley Improvement District. He helped develop the ditch system and the Joseph Hydro Project. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Enterprise for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife of Joseph; children, Don Coppin of Elgin, Mike Coppin and Susan Coppin, both of Joseph; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Verne Coppin of Hankinson, N.D., and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Wallowa County Health Care Foundation for the new hospital building fund in care or Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise 97828.

Cleve W. Coppin, 90, died April 11, 2005, in Joseph. He was born May 31, 1914, to E.J. Coppin and Marion Woolsey Coppin, a North Dakota pioneer family.

Mr. Coppin married Caryl M. Leehmann of Lakeview on June 20, 1942 in Vancouver, Wash. He was self-employed as a rancher. From 1939 to 1947 he was employed by the U.S. Government War Foods Administration.

He was a charter member of Wallowa County Woolgrower’s Association, serving as secretary-treasurer for 25 years. He was director of the Wallowa Valley Improvement District Irrigation system for 45 years and developed the ditch system and the Joseph Hydro Project. He was a member of the Enterprise Elks Lodge for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife Caryl; children Don Coppin of Elgin, Mike Coppin of Joseph and Susan Coppin of Joseph; grandchildren Lisa Paffrath of Desert Hills, Ariz., Michelle Brook of Joseph, Keith Clements of Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nev., Tyler Coppin of Joseph, Julie Ramsey of New Bern, N.C., and Jennie Coppin of La Grande; great-grandchildren Jillian Brock and Megan Brock; sister-in-law Mrs. Verne Coppin of Hankinson, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews in North Dakota.

A memorial service was held April 15 at Prairie Creek Cemetery, with Dr. Craig Strobel officiating. Donations may be made in his memory to the Wallowa County Health Care Foundation for the new hospital building or to a charity of choice.
