Orin H Sass, 81, a longtime Eagle Valley resident, died March 1, 2007, at St. Elizabeth Care Center in Baker City.
His graveside memorial was March 4 at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland.
Orin was born on Dec. 17, 1925, at Richland to Claus P. Sass and Martha Alveda Morrison Sass. He was a 1943 Richland High School graduate.
He married Joanna Reavis on Dec. 31, 1950. They lived on the family ranch, where they dairied and ranched and raised their three children. He lived at Richland until failing health in 2004 led him to move to Settler’s Park in Baker City.
Orin had a great love for Eagle Valley and everyone who lived there. He loved nature, was a great musician and loved playing the piano for anyone who would listen. He was an eternal optimist and made the best out of every situation he faced in life. He loved his grandchildren and put thousands of miles on dozens of cars driving the roads to see them.
He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, loved God and loved to quote scripture.
Orin was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Alveda Sass; and his sister, Lurley Sutton of Vernonia.
Survivors include a brother, Norman Sass of Yuba City, Calif.; his children, David Sass and his wife, Karen, of Genesee, Idaho, Catherine Sass of La Grande and Nancy Morrison and husband, Bobby, of Richland; grandchildren, Donald and Dana Moody, Blake Bars, Ashleigh Bars, Joshua and Megan Neuharth, Abby Morrison, Lucas Sass, Austin Sass, Tyler Sass and Carson Sass; great-grandchildren, Jack and Lucy Moody; and several nieces and nephews.
