Thompson, Clair “Pete” – Obituary

Clair “Pete” Thompson, 74, a former longtime Granite resident, died Nov. 11, 2006, at Del Rio Texas, of natural causes.

His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the McEwen Church in Sumpter Valley.

Pete was born at Park Rapids, Minn., on Sept. 28, 1932, to Abe and Edith Thompson. He was the sixth of eight children.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953, serving two years in the Korean War before being discharged as a sergeant. After his discharge, he worked as a logger like his father. He logged in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Oregon.

He also established and operated the Granite Store at Granite for many years. He was a hard worker. He loved to travel and fish and he was adventurous.

Pete was a special person. He never knew a stranger and he could make friends very easily and was willing to help people out, his family said. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Leroy Clair and Kathy Thompson of Sumpter; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Steve Cox of Garden Valley, Idaho, and Jeana and Geoff Phillips of Baker City; stepson, Jim Fisher, and his wife, Sherry, of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho; stepdaughter, Lorraine Allen, and her husband, Dennis, of Boise; stepgrandchildren, Jed Polfer and his wife, Keri, of La Grande, Kimberlee Jansen and her husband, Troy, of Etna, Wyo.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kairee, Seth, Makenzie, Kaitlyn and Karlee; a brother, Jim; and four sisters, Jean, Joyce, Doris and Phyllis.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a brother, Dave; a sister, Linda; an infant daughter, Mary Edith; and an infant stepgreat-grandson, Conner.
