Hand, Maurice “Morey” – Obituary

Maurice “Morey” Lee Hand, age 77, of North Powder, died Friday June 27 in a Veterans Hospital in Seattle, Washington.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 2, 1997 , 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Bishop Rick Serivner of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints officiated. Vault interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Maurice “Morey” Hand was born January 17, 1920 to James and Nina Hand. Morey was born and raised in North Powder, Oregon. He attended school in Union County. Morey enlisted in the Army on Sept. 16, 1940. He received medals for Good Conduct and also the Purple Heart. Morey was proud to serve his country, he told his family of many experiences, some good and some not go good.

After leaving the service, Morey went to work for a lumber company and retired after 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in many areas around Oregon.

Morey enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in many areas around Oregon. He was loved and cherished by all of his family and leaves many wonderful memories.

Survivors include daughters Ramey Bostick of Eugene, Or., Nancy Morris and son-in-law Mike of Boise, Idaho, and Jackie Grimm of Riddle, Or.; grandchildren Kayla Bostick of Eugene, OR., Bobby Smith of Boise, Idaho, Kristi Ward and husband Dole of Nampa, Idaho; Angie Kennon and Amy Emmerson of Riddle, Or. and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hand was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He was the last survivor of the Hand family.
