1851 Perth Canada Directory

The County Town of the United Counties of Lanark and Renfrew, is situated on the River Tay in the Township of Drummond, C. W. The Town is 7 miles from the Rideau Canal, and the Tay is rendered navigable for that distance by means of five locks; which are capable of admitting barges carrying from 80 to 90 tons. Distance from Brockville direct, 40 miles distance from Brockville by Smith’s Falls, being the stage route, 47 miles-usual stage fare, reduced to 10s. Population about 2000.
