Doris V. Conklin, 81, of La Grande, died Sunday evening March 6, 1994, at Grande Ronde Hospital.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Payne Family Mortuary with Rev. Norm Shrumm of the First Presbyterian Church of La Grande officiating. Private interment will take place later at Union Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 20, 1913, at Union to Guy M. and Essie (Bater) McMillan. On Sept. 19, 1937, she married Roy H. Conklin at Lewiston, Idaho.
She was a graduate of La Grande High School and earned a degree in education from Eastern Oregon State College in 1933. She taught school at Dry Salmon School District 79 and at Promise in Wallowa County. She and Roy moved to Baker City where they raised their son Dale. When Roy died in September of 1956 Doris went back to teaching school at Wolf Creek in North Powder. She later moved back to La Grande and taught fourth grade at Riveria School until her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Union County Retired Educators. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling and reading, but the greatest joy in her life was her family.
Survivors include her son Dale and daughter-in-law Linda Conklin of Heppner; brother Robert and sister-in-law Lois McMillan of Eugene; grandchildren Ashley, Jill, Sheryl and Mark Conklin and one great grandson Bradley Conklin.
A brother Max McMillan and two granddaughters died earlier.
