Died-At the residence of S. O. Swackhumer in this city, Saturday, February 11, 1893, Mrs. E. A. Cusick. The deceased, whose maiden name was Emma Amanda Dodge, was born in Montpelier, Vermont, March 20th, 1850. Died in Union, Oregon, February 11, 1893, was therefore nearly 43 years old. When eight years of age she moved with friends to Omaha, Neb., and in the summer of 1863 crossed the plains with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. O. At his residence three miles North of Union, April 7, Hiram Nelson, aged 67 years. Deceased was born in the town of Rupert, Bennington county, Vermont and has been a resident of Union county for twelve years past. He leaves five children to mourn his loss. Kenneth George Warner, 67, well-known sheep man, died yesterday [May 22, 1939] in St. Anthony’s hospital of a complication of illnesses. He was born in Rutland, Vermont, and came west in 1885 to reside in the Pilot Rock region. In his early life he assisted his father in the sheep business, and later enlisted in The Dalles Company H, participating in overseas activities during the Philippine insurrection. Frederick S. Warner, for twenty-two-years a resident of this county, aged about 72, and the father of Kenneth G. Warner, president of the Umatilla County Woolgrowers’ Association, passed away at his home in Freewater on the 17th [May 1911], and was buried in Olney Cemetery last evening, with the Episcopal service. Charles Hascall of Pilot Rock died last night at home. He was 84 years of age and was born in 1837 near Syracuse, New York. At the age of three he moved with his parents to Vermont and remained there until 50 years of age after which he came to Pilot Rock. He is survived by four sons, Fred, Arthur, James, and Maurice Hascall, all of Pilot Rock, as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Col. Oscar Eugene Learnard was born in Fairfax, Vermont, November 14, 1832, the son of Stephen Tracy Learnard, and he died in Lawrence, Kansas, November 5, 1911. He grew to manhood in his native state, attended the common schools and Bakersfield Academy, taught school, and attended Norwich, Vermont, University. He did not finish his course at the University but that institution afterward conferred a Master’s degree upon him.
