Tiou

The Tiou Indians, often confused with the Sioux, were part of the Tunica linguistic group. Their earliest settlement was near the Yazoo River, later relocating south of the Natchez. By 1697, they interacted with both the Natchez and neighboring tribes, facing displacement from the Chickasaw. In the early 18th century, the Tiou sold their lands and were ultimately driven to the Tunica. By 1731, the tribe was largely destroyed by the Quapaw, leading to a disappearance from historical records.
