Bellacoola Tribe

The Bellacoola, also referred to as the Bellacoola Indians or the Bellacoola First Nation (Bílxula), are a Coast Salish group located in British Columbia, encompassing various tribes along the north and south Bentinck Arm, Dean Inlet, and the Bellacoola River. Identified by the Kwakiutl name, they represent the northernmost segment of the Salishan stock. Key divisions include the Kinisquit, Noothlakimish, and Nuhalk, with a reported population of 311 in 1902. Their villages are numerous, reflecting their diverse communities and cultural heritage.
