Acquintanacsnak Tribe

The Acquintanacsnak Indians were a group or subdivision located on the west bank of the Patuxent River in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, as noted by Capt. John Smith. They formed part of a coalition with the Patuxent and Mattapanient tribes, numbering around 200 warriors. Their principal village was near a small creek above Coles inspection house. While they had a chief, it is uncertain if they constituted a distinct tribe, as they may have been a part of the larger Patuxent tribe, with many local names eventually becoming obscure.
