Lloyd Wirth Was Meat Cutter Here Funeral services for Lloyd James Wirth 75, 2775 Main St. longtime Baker and Baker County resident were conducted Wednesday Feb. 11, at Gray’s West and Co. Pioneer Chapel. Rev. Orville Mick of First Christian Church officiated and Baker Masonic Lodge No. 47 A.F. & A.M. participated at graveside. Interment was in the Masonic Park at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Baker Veterans Organizations participated by conducting graveside honors. Philadelphia has been justly noted for its many charitable and benevolent institutions. Among these the “Orphans’ Home and Asylum for the Aged and Infirm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Germantown” holds a conspicuous place. When so many children were made orphans during the late war, this institution was among the first to open its doors for these soldiers’ orphans, and 98 were admitted up to the time when the State provided homes for them. Including with these reports are names and ages of the orphans who were present during the year.

Lewis Howard Wirth, 81, a former Baker City resident, died July 29, 2009, at Orem, Utah. His funeral was Monday at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home in North Orem, Utah. Interment was at the Orem City Cemetery. Lewis was born on July 10, 1928, to Joseph and Inez Wirth at Burns Lake, British Columbia, where he lived until the age of 8. His family then moved to Medical Springs where they farmed and ranched. He graduated from Baker High School, where he met and married Arlene Johnson. Fall From Horse Fatal For Boy James David Wirth, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Wirth of Keating, died at the Protestant hospital at Baker Saturday from the effects of a fall from a horse at his farm home Wednesday. The lad was rushed to the hospital immediately after the accident. His injuries did not at first appear to be serious but because of his weak condition due to a recent operation he failed to rally from the shock.
