Slave Narrative of Fannie Dunn

Fannie Dunn, an interviewee recounting her experiences as a child during the Civil War, recalls the arrival of Union soldiers in Wake County. She describes her fear as she hid under a bed and mentions receiving medical care from a Union doctor. Dunn reflects on her life under Dr. Isaac Sessoms, noting her family’s treatment, and recounts church attendance and community interactions. Despite the oppressive institution of slavery, she asserts that her mother had a good experience, stating their lives were not entirely negative, and she felt well-treated.
